01 Appliance Repair · Generator repair & servicing
Generator repair & servicing, paid on approval.
A generator that only gets attention when it refuses to start is the most expensive way to own one, and almost everybody learns that the same way.
02 What the job involves
What you are actually paying for
Servicing, starter and alternator faults, rewinding and load testing.
Also asked for as: gen repair · plant servicing
- Oil, filter and plug service on a schedule based on running hours
- Starter, battery and charging circuit checks
- Fuel system cleaning, which is where most no-start faults actually live
- Alternator testing and rewinding where the windings have gone
- Load testing so you know it will carry what you need it to
03 What moves the price
Why two quotes differ
Quotes arrive sorted by total, which makes comparison easy and misleading in equal measure. These are the variables worth checking before you decide one is cheaper.
- 01
Generator size, since larger sets need more oil, bigger filters and more labour
- 02
Whether the fault is service-level or needs the alternator rewound
- 03
Parts availability for the make and model
- 04
Whether it can be worked on where it stands or must be moved
04 Questions
Worth asking first
- 01
How often should I service a generator?
- By running hours rather than by calendar — and if it is your main power source, that usually means every three to four months. Long daily cycles are hard on oil, filters and the starter, and servicing costs a fraction of a rewind.
- 02
Why will it not start even with a new battery?
- Most often fuel rather than electrics: stale fuel, a blocked filter or a dirty carburettor. A new battery cures a genuinely flat battery and nothing else, which is why it is worth paying for a diagnosis before buying parts.
